Every week we share a different image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia. The last image we shared is shown above although we had the caption cropped off!
Do you recognize this Essex building? The caption reads “Sherwood Inn on Lake Champlain, Essex, NY.” Note the sign on the right attached to a tree! It’s at a bit of a diagonal, but it also reads “Sherwood Inn” at the top. The postage stamped on the front tells us this postcard was mailed in August of 1953. This building has changed in looks since its days as the Sherwood Inn. Would you recognize it today when compared to this photo? How exactly has it changed compared with today? Have any memories to share of visiting it while it was an inn?

Everyone recognized the building in the photo as the Sherwood Inn, and they’re right that it is a private home now. The large front porch and several of the trees visible have since been removed, but the form of the house is the same and still recognizable today.
